Episode #04 - Critical Reflection on Learning in the Course
At the start of this course, I have two objectives to accomplish. Firstly, the ability to strike a conversation with a complete stranger with ease. Secondly, the ability to be decisive in making any new decisions.
I can say for certainty that I have achieved my first objective. I had said before in my first blog post that I am aware of the other party’s body language, tone and the words he/she uses. With this knowledge, I can see whether the person is a thinker, feeling or auditory person. Hence, I mirror his posture, tone and words to get engagement and a sense of familiarity. With the knowledge of DISC personality, I became aware what words and sayings I should use to engage the person. With the lessons learned from this course, striking a conversation with a complete stranger has never been easier before and I was able to engage him/her in a personal level.
For my second objective, I still need to work on it. I am still trying to overcome my fear of trying new things and being decisive. For example, I was tasked to complete a game mechanic of a character and I was worried that I could not finish it on time. Usually, I would be busy worrying about it then doing actually work. Now, I just start working on it despite my worries and by the end of it, I had finished it on time. It gave me a gratifying feeling and increase in confidence about myself. By being more decisive, I was able to bring a memorable pitch presentation by wearing a sarong to class and presenting the idea of work culture sensitivity. At first, the idea sounded ridiculous but I knew it would sell the point of our presentation. Hence, I was able to sell the idea to my fellow classmates.
In conclusion, I am able to engage with people more comfortably now and I would need time to work on myself to be more decisive in following my decisions. It was a fun and enlightening course.
